Wet Behind the Ears (2021)

The idiom “wet behind the ears” signifies a person’s immaturity; it resonates with my inexperienced past in dealing with changes. This piece is reminiscent of my feelings during an emotionally turbulent period of my life as I was growing into a young adult. With my family dynamics changing and having to move away from what was familiar, I was facing an identity crisis, questioning my place in the world. By playing around with words and illustrating spilled liquid in a monochromatic tone, I wanted to depict this time in my life as a feeling of uncontrollable melting down or spilling out, which is represented in the fluidity of the figures.
