The Scraps of My Identity (2020)

As a female, the role of women in society influences my thoughts on what I should make of myself and what I am expected to become. This piece is an attempted trompe l’oeil of a teenager’s scrapbook. I added in scraps from magazines and drew on doodles, which I believe represent the process of my growth during times of confusion of conforming to a standard. Much like the function of a sketchbook, this piece allowed me to work out my thoughts and build necessary methods for problem-solving, both in art and my immediate life.
