Night Walks (2020)

I love taking photos when I am out, seizing the wonder of people and places around me. I believe that as an artist, photography is an effective channel to capture moments to help improve your artistry. In this piece, I used a reference photo from a night walk in Seoul. Seoul is a city that never sleeps. There is a constant hustling of people on the streets and brightly lit signs outside of restaurants, karaoke rooms, and convenience stores. However, as we faced a pandemic, the dazzling and colorful alleyways I used to frequently pass, seemed unusually dark and quiet. Through this piece, I wanted to reflect on this feeling I experienced. To emphasize the pitch-black darkness and the melancholy atmosphere, I transformed the scene into black and white.
